The Graphics Get a Bit Cuter with this First-Person Shooter

ROYAL AREA is an action video game by Cubik Studio that lets you enjoy the gameplay of an undercover first-person shooter. Similar to the numerous shooter games out there, ROYAL AREA is geared to be played on multiplayer. There are a good number of game modes available to be played in this game, and you can even choose between job classes for your character that will differ in how you approach each match. You get various playable maps, as well, and there will be tons of weapons hidden all around each level to help you during combat in this mobile port.

Old School

ROYAL AREA’s gameplay isn’t anything new. There are tons of shooter games on various different platforms. Some are single-player, some are in local co-op or online multiplayer. Some are either on gaming consoles or on handheld devices. Whichever it is, they almost always follow the tried-and-true formula for shooter games. You get different game modes to keep the grindy gameplay of aiming at your enemies fresh all the time. Sometimes, there are added elements to the match, such as the concept of an infection spreading in Zombie Mode. Sometimes, you have to use specific items or avoid using some weapons as you play. Whichever it is, shooter games are classic games, and it will all depend on the execution of the game design to see how well the game performs for every player.

From PC to Mobile

For ROYAL AREA, things are pretty much average. The game offers three game modes, namely,  Free For All, Team Death Match, and Capture The Flag. Each mode is simple enough to understand. Free For All pits you against everyone else while Team Death Match is set in opposing teams wherein you have to kill all of your enemies. Capture The Flag, on the other hand,  needs you to steal the enemy flag while protecting your flag. But that’s about it. The fun of playing the game will all come down to the players you’ll be partnering with and facing off against.

ROYAL AREA comes with a class-selection for your character. You can play as either a Support unit that backs up your teammates up or a part of the Recon unit that scouts the area ahead for your plans. You can also play the Engineer who is skilled in artillery units. Or, if you want to jump into the fray for the other class, you can be a part of the Assault unit. Each class has unique skills, equipment, and weapons that suit different styles of gameplay. With this,  you have tons of focused options to choose from. You can even choose the size of the map you chose for your match, so you can dictate how long or difficult a battle can be.

Not Big of a Hype

In design, ROYAL AREA looks great, with its not-too-bright colors of the map and polygonal art style of both the environment and the player avatars. However, in terms of performance, the game lacks a bit. Most of it is about the lag issues, but there’s also the problem of its small player base and lack of further mobile multi-touch optimization. If you’d like to take it on for size, though, it’s a good enough game to try.

PROS

  • Simplistic and colorful graphics
  • 3 game modes
  • 4 classes

CONS

  • Not a lot of unique content
  • Lag issues
  • Low number of players
